Like a Lily among Thorns

Song of Songs bears a special meaning for me, as my name is derived from it.

 

This piece is one of a pair.

The woman figure appears in outline and is surrounded by thorns, with the Biblical text cascading from the top. There is a single lily on the left to complete the image.

​

The fabric in these pieces is a hand-dyed cotton sateen and it is a very prominent part of the quilt. The artwork combines painting with oil-sticks, hand embroidery and machine quilting.
